Tesla Inc, Apple Inc and Nvidia Corp favoured stocks among all generations

Maybe we really do have more in common than differences, at least when it comes to our stock picks.

Research published by CMC Markets today shows that the most popular stocks among the Boomer generation, Gen Z and even the Silent Generation contain many similarities, though there are a few notable differences too.

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) was the top pick across all five generations tracked by CMC, including Gen X and Millenials, while Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) and NVIDIA Corp feature in all generations’ top five.

Only the Silent Generation (those born before 1945) omitted Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) from their top-10 picks while also being the only generation to show a preference for Taylor Wimpey, JP Morgan, AMD, Barclays and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LSE:RR.).

This served them well, since they were also the most successful demographic in the first quarter of 2023, according to CMC, “far more than Generation Z due to the fact that the Silent Generation are more likely to hold their stocks”.

It also helped that Rolls-Royce was the most bullish UK stock in the quarter.

All generations from Boomers to Gen Z had Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Microsoft in their portfolios.

Sadly for Gen X, they were the only demographics to put money on Credit Suisse.

Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) was the only cryptocurrency-related stock to feature in any of the demographics’ top-10 picks, appearing in Gen X, Millennial and Gen Z ranks.

Millennials were the only generation to have car manufacturing company NIO Inc (NYSE:NIO) among their top picks, while Gen Z was the only group to feature a meme stock- GameStop Corp (NYSE:GME).

The Silent Generation and Gen Zedders found common ground in being the only two demographics to have Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) among their favourite stocks.
